Three steps to make use of the Schengen travel insurance

Schengen travel insurance is one of the mandatory requirements to come to Spain with a tourist or study visa. It is also the one we recommend for tourists who visit us from Latin America and do not require a permit.

It is international travel insurance with which you will have coverage in Spain and other countries that make up the Schengen area, such as Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Sweden, Switzerland.

Before rushing out to hire your travel insurance anywhere, take into account the following aspects:

The insurer has to be an accredited company in Europe.

It must guarantee coverage in all countries that are part of the Schengen Area.
Cover your medical expenses throughout your stay, including repatriation.
Schengen Travel Insurance ranges from basic with coverage of medical expenses and repatriation, to more extensive ones with which you will also be compensated in case of recovery in a hotel, early return due to hospitalization of a relative, theft, and material damage to checked luggage, delay in the delivery of checked baggage.

We only work with prestigious companies, world leaders in assistance, and convenient plans tailored to your needs.

And you know what’s best? That if you need medical assistance, it is straightforward. It is just three steps:

1. Have within reach the travel insurance policy or certificate you receive by email when you buy your insurance from

2. Call the 24-hour assistance centre, which is a fixed number indicated in the system. It has no cost for you if you call from a landline or mobile number in Spain. You can also notify us by phone, email, Web chat, WhatsApp, or even Social Networks. Still, it is most recommended, especially in urgent cases, that you do it by phone, directly to our colleagues from the insurance company, since the attention is immediate.

3. Transfer to the medical centre. Depending on your situation, the Insurance team will coordinate with you the provision of the service, making an appointment at the closest and most appropriate medical centre or sending the means of transport you need for the transfer. You will not have to pay any expenses in the health centre, since the insurance will manage it directly.

Perhaps you are wondering, what if I have an emergency and cannot contact the central?

If you have an emergency and it is impossible to call the assistance centre and choose to go on your own to the nearest medical centre, keep calm; it is usually the medical centre professionals who contact the insurer to process assistance.

If the medical centre does not work with insurers or does not accept insurance mediation and requires that you pay the costs at the time of assistance, the insurer will reimburse you afterwards.

Of course, contact as soon as possible the 24-hour number that appears in your policy so that when you have the medical discharge, you have all the supports that you will need in your reimbursement request.

In any case, let us know, and we will be able to consult with the insurance broker the specific documentation they request to prove your case and send it for review.
